Our Wedding Photography Style

For the majority of your day, our preferred style to shoot candid/documentary. This means that we observe and capture the day as it happens without interfering. For you and your guests it means that you get to enjoy the day as you intended and we get the pleasure of documenting the joy of it all!

Why do we choose to shoot this way for most of your day? Good question! We know that our couples spend a lot of time carefully curating their days. For most of our couples, it's one of the only occasions they'll get their loved ones together at one time, so we want them to enjoy that time . What our couples don't need, is us running around trying to get Insta-perfect shots (not that they're not beautiful), encroaching on otherwise lovely moments.

So Does Your Style Change at All?

Yes and no! Confusing right? Let us break it down for you!

The only time our wedding photography style changes is during your group shots, which are usually the only formality we keep to the day and your portrait session. We know you're now suddenly thinking "Oh no, we don't have to stand there and grin at you both do we?" Not at all!

We understand that when you book your wedding photographers, you are (usually) not a modelling pro and we do NOT expect you to be. That's where we come in. We keep our portrait sessions chilled out. We'll usually start off with some walking and getting some movement in to shake off the pre-photo jitters! Then we'll begin talking, generally just creating a great report while cracking a few jokes along the way. We'll begin to lightly pose you, with a few pointers on where to look, where to put your hands and then we'll leave you to sink into your own rhythm. It sounds a lot scarier than it is. There's a reason why you paid for professionals and didn't just get your Great Aunt Tessie to take your photos, you want to look and feel great during your photos.

Top Tips for Looking Great in Your Portraits!

Let's get to the good part shall we? Here are a few of our top tips to get you feeling fabulous in your couple portraits! While none of these are groundbreaking, they may just get you thinking:

1) Pick the right photographer for you! It will make all the difference in the photos that you have taken and in the way you feel about your photos. Our approach is very relaxed, we love to get you moving, connecting with one another whilst giving gentle instruction on what to do with your hands, if you should close your eyes. To relax those shoulders! Oh yeah, we see them trying to get cosy to your earlobes.

2) Enjoy this time alone together. Wedding days can be so full on and sometimes the only time you get together, is when we steal you away for your portraits. So bring your drinks, take a deep breath and relax. We tend to shoot far out for a few shots, so you can steal a few moments catching up and checking in on each other. It's amazing how just being in each other's company can make all the difference.

3) Have fun! Be your goofy selves, joke around, get serious, cry a little, laugh alot! You do you. The more you, you are in your photos the more of a connection you'll feel to them when you receive them. You'll instantly love them more because you'll resonate with the human beings in the images, instead of some overly posed (unless you love that) perfect strangers staring back at you.

4) If you're still feeling a little nervous, why not book in an engagement shoot? Not only does it give you a brilliant opportunity to get comfortable with your photographers, you'll also be able to document a wonderful moment in time and get some beautiful images for your wedding stationary. We'd absolutely love to book in more engagement shoots, or as we like to call them "Adventure Shoots". You can check them out here.

So that's a little more about how we run our wedding photography style and how we run portraits during wedding days. We couldn't help but make beautiful examples out of one of our lovely couples from last year, Angie and Felix! Who truly let their personalities shine through their photos. We've added a little collaboration of their portraits for you to ogle at. If you love what you see and you think we might be a little bit of you and want to get in contact, hit us up on our contact form below the gallery!
